The 'Ceylaniad' - left unfinished - was originally projected to be in twelve books on the lines of the Aeneid and Paradise Lost : it was to be the national epic of Bengal.
'The Heroic Maid' is ultimately based on the historical deed of Grace Darling; 'The Exile of Sita' on Kadambari; 'The Story of Pundarik' on Kadambari; 'The Spirit of Valmiki' on the Ramayana; and 'The Ceylaniad' on the Mahavamsa.
